Vayla Victoria's Baby Shower at LA Garden Weddings
About This Installation
A softly feminine baby shower at Los Angeles Garden Weddings in Harbor Gateway. I designed custom pink wooden arches layered with light pink fabric bows — the fabric adding movement and tactile softness that photographs beautifully in natural light. The organic balloon garland stayed in a tight pink family — light pink, baby pink, and pink blush — creating a gentle tonal gradient rather than a multi-color look. Tonal pink installs are one of my most-requested palettes for baby girl showers because they read sophisticated and photograph consistently across different lighting conditions. Full design, build, delivery, and venue install by my team.
Light pink, baby pink, and pink blush spilled across the wooden arches in a tonal gradient that traded multi-color contrast for monochromatic depth — Los Angeles Garden Weddings in Harbor Gateway is an indoor-outdoor venue with natural side light, and a tight pink family holds its tonal separation under that light far better than a contrast palette would. The three pinks read as one continuous wash from a distance and as three distinct hues up close, which is the photographic discipline a tonal install lives by.
Two pink wooden arches framed the composition as a paired set — wooden rather than fabric or panel, because the texture of natural wood under the pink palette read warm where a painted finish would have read flat. Light pink fabric bows layered across the arches at deliberate intervals, the fabric adding kinetic movement that fixed elements like balloons and wood couldn't provide on their own. Organic balloon garland stayed strictly within the three-tone pink family, with the lightest pink at the top of the arches gradient-shifting down to pink blush at the base of each leg — a continuous tonal motion rather than a random mix.
My team built the wooden arches in our studio with the pink finish hand-applied so the color sat into the wood grain rather than coating over it; spray-painted finishes always read as paint, and the natural wood note was load-bearing for the palette. The fabric bows were hand-tied in matched light pink fabric — pre-made bow stock would have come in synthetic finishes that fight natural light, and the whole point of the tonal install was photographic consistency under uncontrolled side lighting.
Los Angeles Garden Weddings is a venue with strong natural side light and a garden-adjacent geometry that rewards lower-saturation palettes. Tonal pink installs are one of my most-requested palettes for baby girl showers specifically because they photograph consistently across the morning-to-afternoon light shift that outdoor-leaning venues impose. I positioned the two arches against the venue's clearest natural-light sightline and oriented the fabric bows toward the prevailing side-light angle so the fabric texture caught light rather than absorbing it.
A tonal palette is the harder choice — it asks the install to do its work with movement and texture instead of color contrast, and the wooden arches with fabric bows gave it exactly that.
