Encino Verdi Garden February 2026

About This Installation

A safari-inspired baby shower at Verdi Garden event venue in Encino. I designed a 5-layered arch with an open blue safari-print panel, organic balloon garland, and a large 2-layered square backdrop with integrated lighting. The blue silk bow, flower arrangement, and in-house built safari-print bear cutout added playful, personalized details.

The white-blue, cream, and fog palette pulled the safari concept off the standard khaki-and-rust track most jungle-themed showers default to. I planned a cooler set of tones because Verdi Garden's daytime light skews bright and slightly green from the surrounding foliage — warm safari neutrals would have muddied against that ambient cast. Fog held the middle of the composition, cream warmed the edges, and the blue carried the playful weight without slipping into nursery-pastel territory.

Three pieces, layered. A 5-layered organic balloon arch anchored the focal point, sized so the layering read as depth instead of as cluster repetition. Beside it, the large 2-layered square backdrop carried integrated light along its inner edge — a structural lighting choice, not an afterthought clip-on, so the glow read as part of the panel rather than as a fixture pinned to it. The open blue safari-print arch panel framed the composition from above, and the in-house built safari-print bear cutout sat at child eye-level inside the arch frame, broken up by a flower arrangement and the blue silk bow to keep the geometry from going rigid.

My team built the safari-print bear cutout, the print panel, and the lit square backdrop in our studio. The bear was the variable that mattered — print scale, edge treatment, and color match to the arch panel all had to resolve before it could carry the theme without reading craft-store. Warm-temperature lighting was integrated into the square backdrop on purpose; cool LEDs would have killed the cream tones the palette depended on.

Verdi Garden is an outdoor venue with mature trees overhead, which meant ambient light shifted across the afternoon and the install had to hold up under both direct sun and dappled shade. I sized the arch and backdrop so the 5-layer depth still read clearly in flatter shade light, and placed the lit panel where its internal glow would carry into golden hour without competing with the sky.

The bear cutout did one job — it gave the safari theme a physical anchor so the palette didn't have to carry the concept alone.
