Baby Alin's Shower — Let the Adventure Begin

Pasadena Elli Banquet Hall March 2026

About This Installation

An adventure-themed baby shower at Elli Banquet Hall in Pasadena. I designed an in-house built arched backdrop panel with vinyl 'Let the Adventure Begin' lettering, framed by a full organic balloon garland in eucalyptus, sage green, sand, and cream tones cascading on both sides. Pine branches woven throughout the garland added a natural, woodland touch. A white round pedestal cake stand centered the composition, creating a photo-ready focal point against the venue's marble wall.

The eucalyptus, sage, sand, and cream mixture was tuned for a marble-walled banquet room — Elli's interior runs cool under overhead fixtures, and a saturated woodland palette would have flipped olive on camera. Muted earth tones held their value against the marble instead of fighting it; the sand and cream warmed the composition enough that the green didn't read clinical. Pine accents threaded through the garland kept the woodland reference legible without tipping the install into themed-party kitsch.

One arched panel, built around a single sightline. The vinyl 'Let the Adventure Begin' lettering was sized to read from the back of the room and cut to sit flush against the panel face — not appliqued, not stuck on. Organic balloon garland cascaded down both sides of the arch in graduated cluster sizes, heavier at the shoulders and trailing thinner toward the floor, so the panel didn't read as a flat rectangle. A white round pedestal cake stand anchored the center of the composition and gave the photographs a clear focal object at ground level.

My team built the arch panel and threaded the pine branches into the garland in our studio the week before the event. Pine was the variable — it had to be set into the cluster armatures by hand at the right intervals so it read as woven, not pinned. Real branches over faux foliage was a deliberate choice; under banquet lighting, plastic greenery reads plastic immediately, and the woodland palette only works if the natural element is actually natural.

Elli Banquet Hall is a dedicated event venue with a marble feature wall — reliable geometry, but the marble itself is the loudest object in the room before anything else gets installed. I planned the arch to sit centered against that wall and used the warmer end of the palette to keep the marble from competing with the panel. The pedestal cake stand was white-on-white against the wall, which only works because the garland framed it on three sides and held the eye there.

The pine branches did the quiet work — without them the palette would have read shower-generic, with them the woodland theme stayed legible in every frame.
