Miri's Bloom Baby Shower at Malibu Wines & Beer Garden
About This Installation
An outdoor, coral-palette baby shower at Malibu Wines & Beer Garden — a client favorite venue for Alina Balloon installations thanks to the natural light and open setting. I designed a cream backdrop paired with artificial flower arrangements and an organic balloon garland in pixie dust, peach, and coral tones. The floral-balloon combination is one of my signature outdoor looks because fresh-florals don't last the full event in Los Angeles summer heat, while artificial arrangements photograph identically and hold up in direct sun. Coordinated with venue staff on load-in timing and sun positioning. Full design, delivery, and install by my team.
The pixie dust, peach, coral, and cream palette was planned around the one variable an outdoor Los Angeles install cannot negotiate: summer sun. Direct sunlight at Malibu Wines & Beer Garden washes cool tones to white and bleaches pastels flat, so I built the mix in the warm-coral register where the sun actually flatters rather than fights. Peach and coral hold their saturation through midday light, cream warms instead of going gray, and pixie dust adds the soft middle that keeps the palette from reading as one solid block of orange.
A cream backdrop carried the structural surface, sized to fit the venue's open setting without competing with the natural backdrop of the garden behind it. Artificial flower arrangements were threaded across the panel at the corners and along the seam where the garland met the panel — peach and coral blooms paired against the cream so the floral elements read as warm punctuation rather than as a fresh-bouquet add-on. Organic balloon garland in pixie dust, peach, and coral draped across the top edge of the panel and spilled down one side, weighted with coral at the base to anchor the eye and feathering into pixie dust toward the crown.
The floral arrangements were artificial — and that's a structural choice, not a budget one. Fresh florals don't hold past the first ninety minutes of a Los Angeles summer event; the petals wilt, the stems droop, and every photo after the first hour shows visibly dying flowers. Artificial arrangements at this scale photograph identically to fresh and hold their geometry from setup through last guest. Every fabricated piece in the install — the panel, the florals, the garland — was built and arranged by my team in our studio before load-in.
Malibu Wines & Beer Garden is an outdoor venue with strong natural light and zero overhead control. I coordinated with venue staff on load-in timing so the panel was finished before the sun angle hit the photo zone, and I oriented the install so direct sunlight came across the panel face rather than behind it — backlit balloons turn into silhouettes on camera, and a baby shower needs full-color readability at every hour of the event. The garden's open sightlines meant the install had to read from multiple angles, so I built the garland cascade with coverage on both sides rather than concentrating density on one face.
The single decision that solved the outdoor problem was committing to artificial florals — and the install photographs at hour three exactly as it did at setup.
