Ruben's 5th Birthday & Baptism

The white, gold, and fog palette was planned for Olivia Event's interior — a combined 5th birthday and baptism is the rare brief where the install has to serve two distinct moments without splitting visually into two installs. White held the baptismal note that anchored the religious half of the event; gold carried the celebratory weight for the birthday; fog held the middle and kept the composition from going wedding-bright. Under Olivia Event's overhead lighting the gold held its chrome cast against the white panel face without flipping yellow.

One backdrop arch, framed as a single focal piece. The custom golden lettering was CNC-cut and applied flush to the white panel face, sized to read clean in both the seated cake-cutting shots and the standing wide shots that combined-event coverage demands. Organic balloon garland in white, gold, and fog draped across the top of the arch and cascaded down both sides in graduated cluster scale, heavier at the shoulders to anchor the geometry. Three round white cake stands set in front of the panel at varied heights gave the composition a tiered ground-level focal point — three pieces because the dual celebration warranted scale that a single stand wouldn't have carried.

My team built the arch panel and applied the gold vinyl in our studio before delivery. The three cake stands were built to matched specification at three heights so the tiered arrangement read as a composed object rather than as three separate stands clustered together. Biodegradable latex throughout the garland; the gold balloons were selected for chrome finish over satin so they'd hold their metallic cast under Olivia Event's mixed lighting.

Olivia Event is a dedicated venue in Burbank with reliable geometry and predictable lighting — which let me plan the arch and cake stand placement to a single sightline without compromising for ambient variables. The tiered stand placement worked specifically because the venue's overhead lighting was even enough to keep all three stands lit at matched temperature. A residential install with mixed lamp temperatures would have killed the visual continuity between stands.

A dual-celebration brief lives on the install's ability to read as one designed object — the tiered cake stand arrangement was what held the two events together visually without forcing two separate compositions.
