Meher's Birthday

The rosewood, gold, white gold, pale pink, and cream palette anchored an elegant adult birthday against a residential interior — five tones held in disciplined order rather than mixed. I sized the contrast carefully: rosewood as the deepest note, cream and pale pink at the lightest, gold and white gold separating themselves at the metallic level rather than competing as colors. Under domestic ambient light, rosewood read as a warm grounded tone instead of flattening to brown.

The composition built around a light pink arch backdrop with golden vinyl text, flanked by two white open arches that gave the composition depth at the sides rather than only at the center. Artificial flower arrangements threaded into the organic balloon garland at the upper third of the main arch and at the base of both side arches, keeping the floral note distributed across the install rather than concentrated in a single bouquet. A golden round cake stand anchored the floor of the composition in front of the center arch — the gold there matched the lettering above it, so the eye traveled vertically through a single material line.

The pink arch, the gold lettering, the white open arches, the cake stand, the floral integration — all built and assembled by my team in our studio. The white gold accents in the balloon mix were hand-selected for finish — true white gold has a warmer undertone than pure silver, and at restaurant-light color temperature the difference is what kept the metallics from reading cold.

A private home in Cypress sets the scale: the installation has to fit between fixed furniture and a fixed ceiling without imposing on either. I sized the center arch to the room's tallest unobstructed wall and kept the side arches narrower so the composition tapered visually toward the focal point. The two side arches added depth in the wide-shot photographs without competing with the centered text in the closer portraits.

The three-arch arrangement was the install's load-bearing choice — it gave the room a sense of architectural framing it didn't have on its own.
