Little Pumpkin is One

Tujunga Royal Venue Banquet Hall November 2025

About This Installation

A soft, elegant pumpkin-themed first birthday at Royal Venue Banquet Hall in Tujunga — a beautifully maintained venue with great lighting and spacious layout that made this installation shine. I designed the setup around an in-house built round-top backdrop panel with vinyl 'Our Little Pumpkin is ONE' lettering, paired with a blue open arch panel — all framed by organic balloon garland in dusty blue, silk gold, and light blue. Decorative pumpkins in pastel tones, pampas grass, floral arrangements, and an in-house built wooden cake stand anchored the composition. The in-house built candy cart styled with matching details completed the look.

The dusty blue, silk gold, light blue, and cream mixture pulled the pumpkin-themed concept away from the orange-and-black autumn cliché most first birthdays land on. Dusty blue anchored the palette; silk gold carried the celebratory note in a warmer register than chrome would have hit; light blue and cream lifted the whole composition so it stayed soft instead of going severe. Under Royal Venue's overhead lighting the silk gold held a finished, photographic value — actual chrome gold would have flared hot spots in every camera flash, and matte gold would have read drab.

The round-top backdrop panel anchored the main wall, carrying vinyl 'Our Little Pumpkin is ONE' lettering at a scale that read from across the hall. A blue open arch panel sat to one side, breaking the composition into a primary mass and a counterweight rather than a symmetrical wall. Organic balloon garland in all four palette tones threaded across the panels and along the open arch curve. Pastel pumpkins, pampas grass, and floral arrangements clustered at the base of the round-top panel, building the lower third of the composition. An in-studio built wooden cake stand sat at the center, and the candy cart anchored a secondary photo zone on the opposite side of the room.

The round-top panel, the open arch frame, the vinyl lettering, the candy cart, and the wooden cake stand — built by my team in our studio. The wooden cake stand was the call that anchored the warm side of the palette physically rather than just chromatically; natural wood under silk gold reads as a deliberate material choice rather than two notes pulling in different directions.

Royal Venue Banquet Hall is a maintained venue with predictable lighting and spacious layout, which gives the install more room to breathe than a tight residential setup ever allows. I sized the round-top panel to fill the dominant sightline from the entry, placed the candy cart on the opposite wall so the photo zones didn't compete for the same camera angle, and kept the pumpkin styling concentrated at the base of the main panel rather than scattered across the floor. The spacious layout asked for two anchored compositions rather than one stretched across the room.

A first birthday with this much custom build needs the venue to disappear into the background — Royal Venue's neutral walls and reliable geometry let every fabricated piece sit exactly where the palette put it.
