Meghety's 2025 Graduation at Terrace Restaurant Burbank

Burbank Terrace Restaurant May 2025

About This Installation

An elegant graduation celebration at Terrace Restaurant in Burbank for Meghety's Class of 2025. I designed a white arch backdrop with custom lettering and a graduation cap, layered with black fabric bows for contrast. A round white cake stand grounded the photo composition. The organic balloon garland stayed exclusively in white and pearl white — an intentional monochrome choice that let the black bows and grad cap do all the color work. For graduation installs where the graduate wants something polished and photograph-ready without committing to school colors, this palette is a go-to. Full design, delivery, and install by my team.

White and pearl white draped the arch in a monochrome composition that left all the color work to the black fabric bows and the graduation cap — Terrace Restaurant in Burbank has warm tungsten interior lighting, and a polychrome graduation palette would have either fought the room or muddied under it. The pearl white held a subtle separation against the pure white so the garland didn't read as one flat plane of color; the black bows did the contrast.

One arch, one focal point, one composition. I sized the white arch to the room's clearest sightline from the seating area, with the custom lettering and graduation cap mounted at the apex so the photo zone had a single readable headline. Black fabric bows were spaced along the garland at deliberate intervals — not symmetrical, not random, but rhythmically placed so the eye moved across the arch instead of locking on one point. The round white cake stand sat below the arch at the centerline, grounding the composition and giving the photographer a stable lower anchor.

My team built the arch and the cake stand in our studio. The custom lettering with the graduation cap was CNC-cut and mounted flush to the arch face so the typography sat as part of the architecture rather than as signage clamped on. The black fabric bows were hand-tied — pre-made bow stock at this scale always reads as pre-made, and a monochrome install gives nowhere for that to hide. Every balloon was hand-tied in biodegradable latex, white and pearl mixed in alternating clusters to keep the tonal variation visible at close range.

Terrace Restaurant in Burbank is a restaurant venue with a fixed dining geometry and warm overhead lighting that doesn't dim during service. The monochrome palette was specifically a response to that constraint — under tungsten, white balloons read as warm-white, which integrates with the room's existing tonality, while school-color palettes would have spiked against the interior. The arch sat where the room's natural sightline framed it without requiring guests to reposition.

A graduation install where the graduate wants polish over school spirit lives on restraint — the monochrome held its own because the black bows and the grad cap were given room to do all the contrast work.
