Anna's Gender Reveal at Le Brand
About This Installation
A warm, romantic gender reveal at Le Brand Restaurant in Glendale. I designed a cream arch backdrop with custom golden "Boy or Girl?" lettering, paired with a white fluted plinth pedestal as the centerpiece. The organic balloon garland blended cream, blush pink, and dusty blue balloons — the classic gender reveal palette in soft, sophisticated tones to hold the suspense until the announcement. The colors were chosen to complement Le Brand's warm interior without overwhelming it, keeping focus on the family moment. Full design, setup, and breakdown handled by my team so the hosts could be fully present for the reveal.
Cream, blush pink, and dusty blue traced the arch from anchor to apex — a palette tuned to Le Brand's warm interior lighting rather than to the cliche pink-versus-blue split that most gender reveals settle for. The cream did the heavy lifting: it absorbed the restaurant's amber overheads and kept the pink and blue from going acid under tungsten. Gold lettering pulled the warm note forward without competing with the food service lighting overhead.
The composition was built around a single sightline — guests seated, family standing at the arch, camera six feet back from the plinth. I sized the cream arch to frame an adult standing at the center with a foot of margin on either side, and placed the white fluted plinth pedestal at the focal point where the reveal mechanic would sit. The organic balloon garland draped across the top of the arch and tapered down both legs, mixing cream, blush, and dusty blue in the proportion the camera would read first — cream-dominant, pink and blue as accents, no single color spiking out of the composition.
My team built the arch panel in our studio, with the golden "Boy or Girl?" lettering CNC-cut and mounted flush so it sat as part of the panel rather than stuck on top of it. The plinth was fluted white — chosen specifically because Le Brand's interior already carries enough texture in the wood and upholstery; a smooth pedestal would have read flat in the photos. Every balloon was hand-tied in biodegradable latex, no helium fillers crowding the arch geometry.
Le Brand is a working restaurant, which means the install had to load in around active service hours and the lighting was non-negotiable. I planned the palette for the room's specific color temperature — warm overheads that would have flattened any cool-leaning pink or blue. The arch sat where the restaurant's natural sightline from the seating area framed it without requiring guests to reposition, and the plinth height matched the height of a seated guest's eye-line so the reveal moment played to the room instead of past it.
The whole installation worked because the cream held the room and the gold held the lettering — the pink and blue only had to wait for one moment, and the palette made sure they arrived clean.
